I've been watching for a K98 for the past several months and located one this afternoon. It is however a Russian capture reworked version. DOT marked on top of receiver, German Nazi markings are intact. I recall seeing two of them with the usual eagle over swastika along with several other eagle type markings. Stock is stamped with the same serial as the barrel but I don't know if this was ...I had a K98, but was put off by the fact that, at 100 yards, with the sight as low as it would go, it shot about a foot high. I bought a pack of new front sights, but the tallest one was the same darn height as the one on the rifle. So I sold it and donated the 1/2 case of surplus 8mm ammo. SIGHTS: This is one of my bigger topics, close behind the bolt. I only shoot iron sights, so I can be picky. The Mosin Nagant has what I like to call a "flat top". The Rear sight has a rectangular slot which you line up with a post style front sight.

Multiply this by .004, .714 X .004 = .0028 inches. This is approximately how much you need to move the front sight to move the point of impact at 100 yards 1 inch. Say you need to move 2.5 inches in elevation or windage at 100 yards. Incidentally, 300 yards would be a very hard shot with the K98 sights. The K98 iron sights are very, very poor. Since my next best gun is an Ak-47, you can see why this K98 would make a much better long-distance rifle. To me, the Mauser would be a sniper rifle in comparison. ...
